Fundraising has to be an integral part of any charitable endeavour. In 2007 we organised two highly successful fundraisers. After returning from Portland where we held a fantastic African party in May which raised £300, I decided to do the same in London.
It quickly became apparent that we would overflow our limited garden space, so we had to search for a larger venue. That’s when Tony and Paige Allen offered to help and we are grateful to them for the generous offer of their mansion house in Esher.
Our African themed party on Sunday the 8th of July was attended by nearly 80 people. We had a feast of Ghanaian food, African music with kora and drums, a bouncy castle, limbo dancing, a drumming workshop and a grand raffle with a huge variety of lovely prizes. The party generated a lot of publicity, and through it we were able to tell people about our project; volunteers were recruited to go to Ghana and we raised over £3500 for the project.
